At the May 3rd Monte Vista City Council meeting the Council passed a Resolution modifying and clarifying the recent watering restrictions.
The new regulations provide for odd numbered addresses watering on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and even numbered addresses watering on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The regulations do not include a provision limiting the hours of watering.
However, the City would encourage water users not to water between 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. as much of the watering done during the heat of the day is less effective. Rapid evaporation makes watering in the middle of the day wasteful. The best time to water grass is in the early morning. Wind and heat are usually minimal at this time, and the majority of the water will reach the lawn. Plus, the grass leaves and stems will dry by midday, lessening the chance of disease.
Certainly, citizens are allowed to water during their watering days at time of their choosing but they can save money and be more effective with their watering practices by not watering during the middle of the day.
The City appreciates the input from citizens and hopes that these modified restrictions will be easier to follow.
