The Jessie May Olson Memorial Community Garden is a community lead initiative in Monte Vista.
The Garden is named in the memory of resident Wanda Hawman's late aunt, Jessie May Olson, she was well-known and respected throughout the community. Wanda has volunteered a portion of her property to house the community garden.
The Jessie May Olson Memorial Community Garden is on the east side of Monte Vista and at 1703 Huxley Avenue. The Garden is easily accessed by going just two blocks north from US-160.
The gardening season in the San Luis Valley is brief, generally going from early May through September/October.
The Garden is open daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM,
Works sessions every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. - Noon.
Once the Monte Vista Farmer's Market opens for the season, the Garden will also have a 'harvest night' every Thursday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be a booth every Friday at the Farmer's Market here in Monte Vista.
